Led by the band's principal songwriter, Michael Smith, Fiction 8 has existed in one incarnation or another since 1993 when they were originally known as Creeping Eruption. After a series of compilation appearances garnered them a reputation as a cult industrial dance band, Discordia Records (Germany) signed Fiction 8 and released their first album "Dissonance*InDifference" in 1996. Though the album achieved critical acclaim, any success it might have enjoyed ended abruptly when Discordia folded later that year. During this period, keyboardist extraordinaire Steven Hart joined the band and provided a strong stabilizing influence.

1997 saw the band finish its second disc, "Spirits," only to watch it languish for nearly two years under the stranglehold of their previous contract. Finally, in March of 1999, "Spirits" was released on Trisol/Matrix Cube (Germany) and allowed the band a sense of closure. "Spirits" harbors plenty of strong material, including “Time for Me”, “Isolation” and the haunting “Nothing Undone”. Shortly before the release of Spirits, the charismatic Mardi “Paisli” Salazar joined the band as its bass player and violinist, bringing a style and enthusiasm that has fueled the band ever since.

The year 2000 saw the release of one of Fiction 8's most diverse albums, "Chaotica". The album, released on Nilaihah Records, features 13 gems including "Let Go" (from the Nilaihah compilation Resistor), “Somnabule” and "Set You Free." In 2002, "Chaotica" was released in the UK via Cryonica Records.

By 2003, Fiction 8 had completed another unforgettable record, entitled "Forever, Neverafter." The album took the band to new heights and left their fans eager for Fiction 8's next release.
