Roughly 37.3 million Americans have diabetes*. Around 1.45 million Americans have Type 1 diabetes**. 5.7 million Canadians have diabetes***. A whole lot of people all over the planet live with diabetes every single day. Bryan and I are also diabetics. I have been a Type 1 diabetic since I was 19-- I'm 47 as of this writing. Diabetes means the world to us, because is IS our world. We think of our uncurable condition constantly. You cannot live as a diabetic and ignore it; it's always there. And it will kill you. Pretty hardcore, I know.

That's why INSULIN SHOCKS is something we threw ourselves into. We feel it's only a matter of time before diabetes in general is cured. Or, at the very least, can be fully prevented. Awareness and research into diabetes is of the utmost importance. Throughout history, people have tried to figure diabetes out, but it really ramped up with the discovery of insulin by Sir Frederick G Banting, Charles H Best, and JJR Macleod at the University of Toronto in 1921. Since then, it's been a century-long race to find a cure, as treatments become...  more

A big thanks goes out to all the artists involved with this compilation. We literally couldn't do this without you! You have provided your blood, sweat, tears, and talent to something that means a helluva lot to us. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU.

Thanks to Reuben, for such beautiful artwork; and Nicole for pitching in!

Special Thanks goes out to Jeremy Vernon. You know why, Jeremy. <3

A warm gooey thanks launched in the specific direction of Brian Graupner and the Tigersquawk Records fam.

A massive special thanks goes out to Mark Alan Miller for graciously offering to master INSULIN SHOCKS. Be sure to check out his project Out Out, an industrial cyberpunk innovator and powerhouse going strong since the early ‘90s.

Steve would like to thank: Bryan Null, who kicked ass with this comp– I couldn’t ask for a better partner on this; my parents, for their love and support; Nicole, for being my incredibly amazing and patient partner in life-crime; my children, who are all the beacons of hope we so desperately need; my sons’ mom, for being a damn cool human and also moving me to Canada; Reuben, my bestest freind; Mark Alan Miller, for just being so awesome (and being my hero since before I was diabetic!); Mothra and Azrael, for being the ultimate kitties they are; and to those of you, bands, DJs, friends, acquaintances, and complete strangers who helped out, pitched in, and connected us with artists. I’d also like to thank and high-five everyone who has picked up this compilation and/or told their buddies about it. You humans rule.

All material on this compilation is owned outright by the artists involved, and is used with their express permission. No ownership by the INSULIN SHOCKS team of these artists’ contributions is implied in any way, shape, or form.

Thanks for this Steve.

I too am a Type II Diabetic and it has ravaged my life. It cost me my job/career as a computer programmer of 30 years putting me on LTD Long term disability for the rest of my life at home. I've had 2 back surgeries that haven't worked, Double-bypass heart surgery, AFIB, many arterial stints -too many like 8 or 9, I lost all my toes to amputations, and my lower left leg to amputation, I lost all the feeling in my right hand and can't write or eat anymore with it, I have a torn labrum in my right shoulder, I have diabetic ulcers on my right leg that never heal and a pressue wound on my right heal that's more than 6 months to heal with a Wound Care hospital, also have Diabetic Neuropathy or nerve damage in my legs and fingers, I have endured many week-long and month-long hospital stays over the years, including needing an oxygen tank for breathing problems, and I've recently had eye surgery to stop excessive drainage, and I have Diabetic Gastroparesis in my stomach which won't let me know if I'm hungry or full and limits my meals to every other day. I keep getting abscesses that have to be surgically removed, my chest, my abdomen, under my kidneys and upper back that almost killed me 3 times. Oh and I lost my ability to walk for the last 4 years and am wheelchair bound while going to therapy. - ALL FROM DIABETES.

Suffice to say that I hope no one else gets this disease or has to live with it like I still do. Staying alive is very difficult, time-consiming in hospitals and about 6 or 7 doctor's offices every week, and very very expensive as you can imagine.
