Building playlists on Spotify is easy and fun. Got some to post? Your favorites, inspiration from artists, label collections, or wacky themes.

Of course, Spotify is not everyone's favorite due to how they pay artists, but the convenience makes me pay to subscribe. It also lacks in some respects: I rarely try what the bot recommends, so I find discovering music weak that way, and some of the selection is inconsistent. My biggest complaint is it can't sort podcasts into lists and folders like music. But, it did change my habits so I listen to a lot more stuff now.

Here's some:

I made some new playlists!

Here's some I made for joining https://eastbaybikeparty.wordpress.com/ -- they put 500-1000 bikes on the road with lots of light-up music bikes and dance party stops.

The Satan list was fun to make but not so much a party, so I eventually just put on some disco.

I got to lead the Animal Ride. (This isn't much of a list)

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6v2ksIWRm29zJAj2yckzhq?si=aff5702d61574896

Smooth boomer jams, LOL... this one was fun for parts of a 90 mile round trip bike camping and swimming bike ride in the hot california sun.

Chrome playlist.
I made this for all the highlights I love from the legendary San Francisco cult band. Industrial acid punk from space since 1975.

The first 25 tracks is the prime period around 1980. Then there's a couple from when Damon Edge used the name, and Helios Creed's solo stuff (maybe you never checked it out either?), mid 80's-early 90's. Last is a big chunk from after Edge died, with Creed's late 90's revival through 2021. The treat for me is the tracks from Half Machine From the Sun... they found an album's worth of stuff made at the same time as my favorites that was tucked away for 35 years.

I think not everyone considers them part of industrial, but I think it's a bridge from 70's space rock like Hawkwind to 90's industrial rock. The wacked out sci fi approach and experimenting with electronics and cut up samples helps. Check out one of my favorites from them, Electric Chair and compare it to TVOD by The Normal. It's like a funnier Devo-fied take.

Industrial Jazz Funk playlist.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3LLSOnRdrmIBfYJy8zmDdW?si=1bc2d460488249b7

One secret of greatness in this music, is funk! Cabaret Voltaire is my favorite of the first wave bands because they had the funk. Die Warzau's underrated masterpiece Engine mixes robotic industrial with improvised jazzy noise. Foetus does absurd sound collage. A common root is the Beats, William Burroughs, etc. However, this odd pocket of music is probably not very recognized.

reddit.com/r/industrialmusic has multiple threads about industrial + jazz so I made the list from them. It's more pop than noise. Some of it is only related by side projects or shares members or producers with industrial or noise rock (like NYC No Wave) or it's on the dark/doomy/noir side. I wanted to keep it less harsh and more fun, like Begnagrad (Slovenian avant-jazz with folk instruments and whistling, gargling and screaming.) I'm also not super well versed in jazz, although I do like some avant style when I hear it. This surely lacks some good stuff (maybe more Tom Waits is a good idea.) It also worked surprisingly well for a party, with some fun pop tunes in among others that sound like movie pieces.
