MEGABOMB SOUND SYSTEM VOL. 1
I grew up listening to lots of different music. In the late 80s, early 90s my tastes gelled. The Cure’s Disintegration, Ministry’s A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste, Nine Inch Nail’s Pretty Hate Machine, Public Enemy’s Fear of a Black Planet, Godflesh’s Streetcleaner, Pop Will Eat Itself’s, This is the Day, This is the Hour, This is This, Faith No More’s Epic, the Beastie Boy’s Paul’s Boutique, Sepultura’s Beneath the Remains, and Frontline Assembly’s Gashed Senses and Crossfire where all released in 1989 and have been drilled into my brain. Easily my favorite year in music.
MEGABOMB SOUND SYSTEM VOL. 1 and RT CTRL EP are not trying to be synthwave or darksynth, or any other specific genre. This is just Lazer Station. It is influenced by music from the late 80s and early 90s because that’s what I love. Think of it as if Liam Howlett, Hank Shocklee, Al Jourgensen, and Clint Mansell got together and made some music and occasionally Robert Smith, Dean Garcia, and Justin Broadrick pop their heads in to offer their thoughts. Flood and Alan Moulder might have produced some tracks. If that happened it would have sounded better than what I have produced, but you get the idea.
This is an album of music that I made to sound like something I’d like to listen to. It is really just me, drawing on my influences and seeing what original things I produce. Some of you will hate it. Others will forget it. Far more will never hear it. But for those of you that like it, we have similar tastes and if you haven’t heard any of the albums I mentioned above, go listen to them as many are their best works.
Lazer Station began as darksynth/synthwave, was embraced by that scene, but now has largely moved away from that sound. Lazer Station’s updated sound is still cyberpunk. It is still electronic. It is darker, meaner, angrier, and heavier than ever before.
