Blucifer
by Starfarer
Denver's "Blucifer," officially known as "Blue Mustang," is a controversial and iconic sculpture located at Denver International Airport in Colorado. Created by artist Luis Jiménez, this imposing, 32-foot-tall, and 9,000-pound blue horse statue has become both a symbol of the city and a subject of fascination and intrigue.
The story of how the statue "killed its maker" is a grim one. In 2006, while the sculpture was being constructed, a tragic accident occurred. A section of the statue fell on Luis Jiménez, pinning him beneath it and causing severe injuries. Sadly, the artist did not survive this tragic incident, and it left a mark on the sculpture's history, leading to various superstitions and urban legends about its curse.
Blucifer is known for its fiery red eyes that glow at night, which many people interpret as an eerie and foreboding element, adding to the mythology surrounding the sculpture. Despite the dark tale of its creation, Blucifer remains a symbol of Denver, sparking mixed reactions from visitors and residents, making it an iconic piece of public art.
