SMP stands for Sounds of Mass Production, and is an American industrial-rock project/band, based in Seattle, Washington.

Founded in 1992 (under the short-lived moniker, Synthesia Murder Program) by musicians Jason Bazinet and Sean Ivy (aka Sean Setterberg), the band has gone through numerous lineup changes, with Bazinet remaining, as the sole constant member and primary songwriter.

The current live line-up of SMP is Jason Bazinet, James Ramos, and Rey Guajardo

Doll Factory

Whether in music, multimedia, or visual arts, Garrick and Chris have been chasing a muse of one form or another since meeting in junior high school in the mid-1980s. From seminal favorites of their formative years including David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Roxy Music, Einstürzende Neubauten, Kraftwerk, Public Image Limited, Ministry, and Duran Duran, through Wax Trax-era industrial, trans-Atlantic electronica, drum-n-bass, post-punk, post-post punk, and several iterations of ‘indie rock’, to current favorites such as The Faint, Interpol, Editors, Muse, Alpinestars, LCD Soundsystem, Ladytron, Fischerspooner, orchestral music, and Eastern-influenced artists like Niyaz, Silk Road Ensemble, Talvin Singh, Natacha Atlas, and Bollywood film soundtracks, a shared love of music and art that transcends easy boundaries of genre and medium has seen the duo through a number of years, lineup changes, and band names before being reincarnated as Doll Factory, joined by Jason Bazinet on drums and Mars Saxman on keyboards, at the end of the 1990s.

After releasing their Premonition E.P. in late 1999, Doll Factory signed to independent New York based label Neue Asthetik, a label known for releases from artists including Judith, The Shroud, Faith and the Muse, Das Ich, and more, releasing their debut full-length disc, Weightless, in early 2003. In 2006, shifts in the music industry – particularly the bankruptcy filing of Tower Records / Bayside, who had most of the existing stock of Weightless in hand at the time – would lead to the label closing its doors, and an amicable parting of ways with the band. Doll Factory is currently at work on their as-yet-untitled follow up release to be released on their own NPS Media/Narcissus imprint or a new label, and the already hard-to-find Weightless, as well as the original Premonition E.P., are now available through iTunes and other online music services.

Deathproof

Deathproof is a Canadian-American electronic music duo formed by producer/singer Chris DeMarcus (Front Line Assembly, Stiff Valentine, Dismantled) and drummer/singer Jason Bazinet (Front Line Assembly, Sounds of Mass Production, 16volt). Chris works out of various recording studios in Vancouver and at his home in Abbotsford, Canada. Jason is based out of New York, USA. The two started to write together via internet file exchanges and Skype after meeting on a tour with 16volt and Chemlab, Chris mixed the bands while Jason played drums.

Keyboardist/singer Kerry Peterson (Stiff Valentine) and drummer Galen Wailing (Left Spine Down) completed the line-up for Deathproof's debut album, set to come out on WTII Records in 2015.

Chris describes the new album as "Something louder and heavier than what we do with straight dance remixes, still with big cinematic -- and complicated -- production. We've got Jason rapping over breakbeats with live drums, female rap vocals about zombies, a homage to the sound design of Streets of Rage II, and some really big collisions between classical music and modern electronica"

Deathproof is primarily known for their remixes of industrial dance tracks, although they overlap considerably with house techno, hip-hop, and heavy metal. They've retooled tracks for Information Society, Aesthetic Perfection, System Syn, MC Lars, Unit 187, Angelspit, Mesh, and over 50 other electronic and rock artists.They've also produced full records for Stiff Valentine, Sounds of Mass Production, and Slave Unit.

Chris explains the project as a bit of a paradox, "There is something old-school in everything we do. But we've got too many influences to sound simply retro -- and I like modern production techniques too much! We got two heads, one always looking forward and the other backward."

The Loyal Opposition

A collaborative side project from Jason Bazinet (SMP, Front Line Assembly, 16 Volt, Chemlab) and Garrick Antikajian (Doll Factory, SMP, micro/nism, Guernica), with Doll Factory’s Chris Roy on guitars, backing vox, and mastering.

Co-produced by Chris DeMarcus (who has worked with Stiff Valentine, Left Spine Down, Front Line Assembly, Aesthetic Perfection, Chemlab, 16 Volt, Jewel, Marcy’s Playground, Tal Bachman, and many more) and The Loyal Opposition.

Side-projects in the industrial scene generally fall into two categories; they’re either an opportunity to explore a different style from the artist’s more well-established project, or a chance to collaborate with a like-minded fellow musician or producer without upsetting the integrity of one’s main musical outlet. The Loyal Opposition straddle that line somewhat: while the mix of industrial rock, rap and coldwave tropes that make up the majority of Under the State aren’t departures for Jason Bazinet (SMP) or Garrick Antikajian (Doll Factory), the record is an exercise in applying them to a few different styles of song, with uneven if occasionally fun results.

Of the various modes that Under the State touches on, it’s the upbeat and more dance-oriented tracks that have the most impact. Opener “Failsafe” bounces along on a blend of breakbeats and funky bass, layering sequences and samples to good, dynamic effect. “Switch” works a similar template, touches of distortion and reverb playing off the detuned lead sound for added menace. And despite being slower than either of the aforementioned cuts, the groovy “Businessman” is perfectly catchy, featuring Bazinet rapping over a sample-laden instrumental that revolves around an alternately chirping and burbling synth loop.
