“TO AVOID” are grandT, marc cheffe and jean.

The project was founded in 1998 just outside Berlin by grandT and marc purely out of a desire to experiment. The aim was to create music that corresponded to their own view of electro and counteracted the increasing wave of future pop. It remains questionable whether this also resulted in the idiosyncratic band name.

GrandT and Marc were supported and complemented in the following years by cheffe (dj starve) as another producer and Jean, who from then on also took over the design/graphics tasks in addition to the music.

The musical influence is unmistakably from the EBM / old school electro scene of the early 1990s, but without copying it in a way that allows an exact comparison to other bands. From their own statement, however, FLA, Mentallo & F., NUMB, Skinny Puppy, XMTP etc. represent the boys' actual role models in their musical development.

That's why TA's songs are by no means dusty. By mixing old basic ideas and elements paired with modern sound structures, songs are created that are dark, electronic and danceable and therefore sometimes fit less into the usual club landscape with its copied, run-of-the-mill dance sounds.

Electronic music with a clear YES to the roots of EBM and a clear NO to current fake trends and prefabricated label concepts without being neither better, different, nor more outstanding...but 100% natural...but 100% TERROR BANANA FREE !!!

Since their inception in 2000, Berlin-based TO AVOID has captivated audiences around the globe with their eye-catching stage presence and unique fusion of late 80s EBM industrial and 90s melodic dark electro. If you're a fan of the intricate EBM of FRONT 242 (anno 1985), the tortured dark electro of early SKINNY PUPPY, the hard-hitting cold elektro of VOMITO NEGRO, or the poignant melodies of GRENDEL, then TO AVOID's sound is sure to captivate you.
