Front 242 were formed in Aarschot in 1981 by Daniel Bressanutti and Dirk Bergen.
After a few singles, Jean-Luc De Meyer (vocals) and Patrick Codenys joined the group and the first album, "Geography", was released. At this stage, Dirk Bergen left the group to become their manager.
In 1983, Richard 23 (Richard Jonckheere) joined the group as vocalist/percussionist. With this line-up, the band released many albums of EBM, gaining more popularity with every release. (EBM stands for Electronic Body Music, a term originally coined by Kraftwerk) They also established a solid live reputation, with an energetic show in para-military outfits. The year 1993 brought a radical change in style, with guest musicians, the disappearance of their military look and the exploration of both harder (guitar samples) and softer (female vocals, ambient) sounds. After many years of silence, except for a few live/remix-albums, Front 242 re-appeared in the spotlight in the late nineties with their Re:boot-tour, bringing modern, techno-like cover versions of their own songs. In 2003 they took a step back towards their EBM-roots, with the release of "Pulse" and "Still & Raw".
Before Front 242, the members were already involved in other projects, like Prothese (Daniel B.), Under Viewer (Jean-Luc De Meyer & Patrick Codenys) and Tranik Ind. (Richard 23).

Before joining Front 242 in 1981, Brussels-based artists Patrick Codenys and Jean-Luc De Meyer began working together in 1978. This became Underviewer, a project created using a bass, synthesizers, rhythm boxes and a tape recorder.
With the introduction of analogue machines, the duo enjoyed the total freedom of tone and inspiration, although at the time there were many technical limitations and constraints. From musical experimental tracks to melodic and structured songs, Underviewer focused their creative approach on minimalist arrangements influenced by German bands including La Düsseldorf, Neu!, Can, and DAF.
Dormant for over 30 years, Underviewer has recovered 14 of these recordings from the original 4-track tapes; most recreated by using the same vintage machines, imperceptibly adapting them only where needed. These songs were finished in 2016 to form the debut album of a band that has existed for more than 38 years.
The album ‘Wonders & Monsters’ brilliantly renders the force and timeless melodic quality of music which belongs to everywhere and any time, never claiming to belong to any form of avant-garde. 14 songs swaying between fire and ice, carried by the distinctive and unique voice of Jean-Luc De Meyer, and fuelled by Patrick Codenys sharp and modern production style. Underviewer’s songs have that particular infectious charm and poppy catchiness that make them instantly accessible and addictive.

Three diverse personalities: Daniel B. (Front 242), Patrick Codenys (Front 242) & Elko Blijweert (Dead Man Ray) with Male Or Female avoid categorisation. Their musical concept extends the usual sound format to extreme improvisation and psychedelism. This deliberate choice, far away from the music industry standards, reveals what they think music should be: "the exploration of the senses". With the album "…Recalled Moments" and its ep extension "And Failed Destruction", M.or.F defies all boundaries of electronic music, transcending urban cultures and time.
Meanwhile, their enthusiasm for side projects has continued, as Patrick Codenys started appearing with a new group called Red Sniper, Bresanutti started recording with a new group called Troissoeur, and Codenys and Richard 23 formed a quasi-DJ project called Coder23 which toured in late 2004 and early 2005 as the opening act for VNV Nation. De Meyer contributed vocals on two studio tracks for the Glis album Nemesis in 2005. The lyrical content of the two songs ("The Irreparable" and "La Béatrice") were based on the poems of Charles Baudelaire.
Years active: 2001-2004
Male or Female, also known as Morf, a new project for Bresanutti and Codenys along with vocalist Elko Blijweert. In 2002 and 2003, Morf released an album, an E.P., a double album, and a DVD/CD two-disc combo, on the Belgian record label Alfa Matrix, and went on tour through the U.S.

Speed Tribe – Speed Tribe (DVD) - 2002
Intended more as a home theater experience than a conventional racecar documentary, Speed Tribe plays like a dance rave on the racing circuit. It works more as a showcase for heavily processed digital imagery and rib-thumping electronica, combined with the inherent thrills of racing's most challenging annual endurance event, Le 24 Heures du Mans. The digital video of 2001's Le Mans race does not function as a historical record of the event; instead, filmmakers Rod Chong and Sharon Matarazzo create an impressionistic tapestry of the Le Mans experience, employing all varieties of image manipulation and multiangle viewing, while the rhythmic, pulsating soundtrack (by Front 242 cofounders Daniel Bressanuti and Patrick Codenys) keeps pace with the zooming Audis, Porsches, Corvettes, and Panoz competitors. Like Moby's Play the DVD, this techno-disc is perfect for pushing your home theater to the limit; an expanded soundtrack CD and audio-only race-driver interviews are icing on the highly stimulating cake.
