There’s really no one quite like dark electronic artist Lav Andula, who describes her creative offerings as “feedback-driven harsh dance music to cry and split blood to.” A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Andula began creating experimental music – which she classifies as drearwave and witch house – at age 17 before realizing that the south was just not equipped to handle it. She moved west to Arizona, joining forces with a group of like-minded Phoenix-based musicians including Lana Del Rabies, Terminal 11, Black Baptist, and Asymptote.
A prolific artist, Andula (who took her name from the Latin genus of lavender) released her debut album, X∞X, in 2017. She then released two EPs, – 2017’s Pollen and 2018’s //.atrophy.// – and several notable singles, including a slow and seductive cover of Alice Deejay’s “Better Off Alone,” the haunting and despondent “what I once loved is killing me.,” – and a noisy ethereal cover of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill.”
