VVMPYRE - BLOO-D
« on: January 27, 2023, 09:00:49 PM »

Dance music for vampires, horror scores for the nightclubs, shocktronica for the uninitiated.

Initially taking time as a DJ on Nightride FM, VVMPYRE slowly reinvented from being a mashup artist that dabbled in Darksynth production to fully embracing Darkwave. A barrage of remixes leading into maxi singles soon followed, quickly gathering acclaim across both Goth and Synthwave.

Blending the bass and drum machines of Synthwave with a horror orchestra and occasionally big guitars, VVMPYRE's distinct sound blends his horrifically catchy production with an increasingly unpredictable list of guest singers. The result is the "soundtrack to your nightmare" that commands you to dance.

Location: Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA.

BLOO-D

BLOO-D's journey as the producer of the VVMPYRE project has been a strange one. Between appearances, disappearances, returns, and recently an upcoming addition to VVMPYRE's lineup, it's easy to lose track of any of it. But one thing has always remained true: BLOO-D has continued to remain the dark dancefloor commander. Even if the format changes.

Guess Who's Back?
by BLOO-D

Taking the form of a Goth "Mixtape", BLOO-D throws mashups, unofficial remixes, and a new collab to deliver a new soundtrack to your nightmares just in time for the spooky season. The variety of styles would be off-putting if not for BLOO-D's signature horror orchestra and Gothic guitars being omnipresent throughout. Even the mashups bring in versions of these elements, and "Witness to a Vampire" is a return to the Darksynth instrumentals of the early singles.

The consistent sounds and variety make for an equal amount of interesting flips in the track choices used. "Model Citizen" gets a barrage of guitar riffs, "Make Me Better" gets a surprisingly uplifting Synthwave bootleg, and even BLOO-D's mentors Corlyx get an interesting mashup with the help of the Team Dark theme from Sonic Heroes on "This Machine's Raindrops". The end result is a combination of sounds that remains true to BLOO-D's sound while fueling the creativity that shaped the dark dancefloor commander in the first place.

Special Thanks as well to Violet Wanda for multiple tips to helping with the mixdowns for several tracks.

The First Vampire
by BLOO-D

BLOO-D's evolution since "Guess Who's Back" has been a matter of putting things back together. By reconstructing the sounds that shaped the early releases of VVMPYRE, we get "The First Vampire", both an evolution and a double down of BLOO-D's past releases. Even if the format remains the same, this is a new beast entirely.

Taking the goth guitars and dark instrumentation of the past while adding more dance beats and more infectious vocals, the result is a cataclysm of the mainstage dancefloor and the gothic dancefloor. Thus, the dark dancefloor commander has dubbed a term for this sound: Big Room Goth. Inspired partially by fellow producer Violet Wanda's explorations into similar territory, some of the evolutions definitely show said inspiration. But BLOO-D's distinct darkness bleeds into even the start with Pop remixes of girl groups like Play, SEREBRO and the Ke$ha choice. When they do get dark though, like on "Tarantula Girl" or the original "Nightmares On A BLOO-D Moon", they truly embrace the darkness fully.

Even the mashups have a distinct evolution to them. The choices are equally as unlikely but the dancefloor combinations are there. DJ Shinobi's collaboration results in GACKT colliding with Ladytron to result in almost the perfect example of this, while the collaboration with Von Hans adds further atmosphere and feel alongside the dance beats. The bootleg of smashing together Like Suicide and Streetwalker brings together the EDM and Goth sounds as well in a tone not too far from Futurepop, while also having the distinct Gothic touch that makes a BLOO-D release. The end results here are a clash of sounds that go together perhaps even better than the combination may already sound.

...And Then There Was Blood
by BLOO-D

The quiet nature of BLOO-D outside of the platforms they choose to put themselves on makes their evolutions a certain degree of unpredictable. So when they starts the second volume of this mixtape trilogy with a song that was likely the #1 song in their home country, but then wildly shifts it into a mix of Goth Rock and Synthwave, it almost feels par course.

But just like Future's hedonistic darkness clouded his best mixtapes like Monster, the eventual DS2 album, and even the "We Don't Trust You" album that "Like That" is on, BLOO-D reaches for their darkest impulses. The records are even more recognizable this time than the ones on "The First Vampire", but conversely, even just looking at the lyrics of all the tracks chosen makes it feel darker. But the funeral organs of "We Can't Be Friends", the frantic buildups of "Obsessed" and "The Change", and the now more melancholic tone in "Freedom to Pretend" make for a reflection of this darkness on its own. But "You Didn't Want Tchami" and "I Did Not Know" show that the Violet Wanda influence hasn't left, and "We Still Don't Trust Night Demons" tunes in the Horrorsynth influences that show BLOO-D will always carry this side of them.

While the soundscapes are similar, there are still small evolutions aside from just an increased darkness. The Techno elements of "I Did Not Know", "Deep Space Morning Star", and "Tell Me Why" reflect shifts in BLOO-D's own DJ sets, and "Atomic Blood is Pumping" and "You Are Confused Here" both embrace the Blade comparisons often made in BLOO-D's work as VVMPYRE. In that sense, combined with the horror roots, this really is just BLOO-D at their most BLOO-D. The most Gothic chord progressions, the most ear-catching yet dark hooks, and the most unpredictably predictable song choices for a mixtape full of Goth and Industrial mashups and bootlegs. But would you want it any other way?

The Magic of Life
by BLOO-D

There is no epic description.

There is no hype up.

There is only the music.

It is the 3rd and final mixtape in the BLOO-D mixtape trilogy.

There are mashups, bootlegs, and "Absynthe in the Cracks" as a new original.
