Snow Ghosts

This is a collaborative effort of Throwing Snow and Augustus Ghost from the UK. They have real names, but I feel that ruins the mystery :P. This was one of the first projects I found on Houndstooth and it just flattened me..lol

Initially it just fell into that ever widening dub genre, but Ghosts vocals were awesome. It very much reminded me of the apex of trip hop. Portishead, Massive Attack, but also the musicianship and magic of This Mortal Coil. With each successive EP and album it became more visceral, more organic, and more vital sounding. This project feels so inspired and I love that.

That last vid was a track from Xmen Apocalypse. The movie was trash imo, but having Snow Ghosts on the soundtrack was cool. That was the first track from their first album in 2013.

Arad & Eomac. Collectively known as Lakker.

Two guys from Ireland, working in Berlin, doing music that refuses to fit into a box.

Every time I hear these guys, I just have to stop and pay attention. You never know exactly which direction they will go, but you know it will be an interesting journey.

Broken English Club

When i'm asked about contemporary EBM/Industrial artists. I always mention Oliver Ho. I find his work compelling. Raw and honest, noisy and experimental, but always with this clever sense of style and purpose.

He also does Slow White Fall, which is awesome. And he is in the collaborative effort Zov Zov with Thomas Gillard. Pretty much everything this guy does is a recommendation from me.

Samuel Kerridge

UK techno artist. Runs the gamut between slow grinding industrial and ultra fast Aphex style IDM programming. Always Very Interesting.

This comp from June Records -feels- like the 90s EBM/Industrial all over again. Highlights are the Mannequin Recs label head Alessandro Adriani, LBEEZE, and Penelope's Fiance.

New Techno-Noise to delve into:

I just started getting into Umwelt and I like what I hear so far.
Blush Response is really going places lately with all thier releases and collaborations.
You should find a way to get together since you're fellow New Yorkers and see about collabing or doing remixes for each other sometime?

Eu1ogy is one to watch. Gets roped into rap & trap and that scene but this is pure distorted trash industrial. I am interested to see where he goes with this. The album drops in April. https://www.diggersfactory.com/vinyl/233088/eu1ogy-daggers

Firing up The Noise Floor again. I mostly went back to posting links on FB. It's just easier. Seems the militant politics is everywhere so no reason to segregate social media platforms. IE. They ALL suck! Lol

First up, the rabbithole I fell into early last year when I started using Last.fm again. Several "cassette" labels have spawned. They run the gamut between post-punk-EBM and techno.

https://detritirecords.bandcamp.com/music
https://pildorastapes.bandcamp.com/music
https://miseriarecords.bandcamp.com/music
https://upnorthrecordss.bandcamp.com/music
https://dearsoil.bandcamp.com/music

Those are a few to set you in the right direction. Over the next couple weeks I will post the highlights

The whole thing started in 2021 when I heard Alpha Sect on Pildoras Tapes.

Electronic producer from Greece. Was described to me as "electro inspired punk music". And that gives a great snapshot of this entire musical movement. Cassette releases. Very simple high contrast artwork. Often collage art. It seems like more of a collective that an industry of labels and artists. This from a total outsider-just my observations. Anyhow, more Alpha Sect.

Alpha Sect & Pildoras led me to Damaged Clock

Damaged Clock led me to SOIL records, OSM Tapes, SHISHI, and Bruto Industries.
See, unlike the electro-industrial scene I have been used to, these "new", artists release on multiple labels. Limited formats. There is much cross promotion. A living breathing network like the WH scene when it was active.
