Starstruck Love
by The Frixion
With an expanded line-up and fresh new music for 2023, The Frixion are set to share their distinct blend of darker-hued electropop with the world, continuing with their third release of 2023 –Starstruck Love.
The Frixion are British born, Berlin based singer songwriter Gene Serene – a prolific writer and performer whose unique vocal style has been featured in genres as diverse as pop, dance and electroclash – while Essex based producer and keyboardist Lloyd Price brings his many years of production experience and expertise to the mix.
Joining the band more recently is London based DJ and producer Porl Young, well known for his DJ residency at the iconic Heaven nightclub and his work with Rosetta Stone, Nina Hagen, Wayne G, Sleazesisters and more.
The Frixion’s intoxicating blend of sultry vocals, conscious lyrics and beautifully elegant arrangements has seen them win over not just fans of electronic music, but also discerning fans of well written, intelligent pop as well. Starstruck Love is no exception.
Starstruck Love is a reflection on love that never fades, even when faced with the challenges brought by time and distance. Gene says, “It’s about the nature of love - one can pretend it doesn’t exist, walk away from it, even try to deny it forever – however pure love never wanes and the moment you’re confronted with that person again, it’s there - the emotion just as it always was like time travel.”
Expanding on the genesis of the track, she continues “It’s taken a really, really long time to finish writing and recording this song. I recorded it several times in different places, and I sometimes still wonder if it’s actually finished. But I am very excited to get this track out there to the world – finally.
“It was also great to record in a proper studio. I loved being able to get in the booth with a nice UE87 microphone and just focus on the music - having the right space and talent, and atmosphere really does make a difference when recording. I think you can hear this in Starstruck Love and the next couple of singles we have lined up.”
She continues: “Porl’s skills have helped us realise the level of music production we always wanted, with a bigger sound achieved by adding layers of outboard and live instrumentation. Starstruck Love is our first release working with Porl and it sounds great!”
As well as the original version and a radio edit of the song, Starstruck Love boasts a suite of melodic house remixes and dub versions from Berlin based DJ Aaron Hedges – an experienced DJ and producer, well known for his sets at the legendary Bar 25 club in Berlin and his collaborations with vocalist Aérea Negrot.
Their new single follows on from the band’s new track Escape from Alexandria (released on the most recent AnalogueTrash label sampler) and their popular cover of the Velvet Condom classic Collapse in Slow Motion, which also received remix treatment from Tipsy Eyes.

With The Frixion’s vocalist Gene Serene based in Berlin and producer Lloyd Price based in Essex’s Southend (a formative influence on Depeche Mode and Yazoo), it’s no surprise that both united over a shared love of darker-hued electropop.
That love can be heard in the duo’s new single – a reworking of Collapse in Slow Motion, one of the best-known songs by much-missed German underground electronic act Velvet Condom that has been reworked and reinterpreted by Tipsy Eyes.
The original version of Collapse in Slow Motion featured on Velvet Condom’s 2008 SAFE & ELEGANT album, an all-time favourite of the band, and one with which vocalist and songwriter Gene Serene maintains a deep personal connection:
“Collapse in Slow Motion is a classic piece of Berlin electro. I fell in love with the track when Velvet Condom came and performed at one of my parties in 2008.
“The song has stayed with me ever since, a go-to track when DJing and always enjoyed at parties - I have wanted to sing it for a long time really. It really fits in well with what The Frixion do and our repertoire. It's been well received live the few times we performed it, so it's nice to record and release it for more people... more
