Filmmaker - EBM, Darkwave, Synthwave, Electro from Antioquia, Colombia

Colombian producer, Faunes Efe, stands behind a slew of prolific albums and EP’s released under the Filmmaker project, quickly building a cult following amongst those with an affinity for dystopian electronics steeped in an alluring, seductive darkness. From earlier self-released works such as ‘Visceral’, a 10-track full length work modestly described in Efe’s own words as the “First occult-orientated soundtrack from an experimental lost film”, to the 808-shots of ‘Nocturnal’ and later with the grainy, low-fi electro of ‘Wetwork’. Each successive release proves Efe’s capacity to execute productions of magnitude across the electronic spectrum, yielding body moving music from a small arsenal of honed hardware.

Filmmaker’s material derives from an unadulterated exploration of the sonic realms, utilising multiple formats and artistic mediums; documented through a series of original cover artworks and short films created by Efe. In the space of a year since its inception, Efe began touring as a live artist under the Filmmaker project, from his home-base in Medellin, to clubs and spaces throughout the Americas and Europe. 2019 became a defining period for Efe’s musical trajectory, with the release of the acclaimed ‘The Love Market’ LP on Berlin-based Detriti Records and later landing on esteemed UK label, Opal Tapes with his 6-track ‘Unregulated’ EP, followed by the 7-track dark wave masterclass ‘Noir Times’ EP on Valencia-based, HC Records.

Dalmata Daniel welcomes Filmmaker and Petros Spatharos for the eighth part of their split series. This obscure 3-3 track vinyl is the debut of the Columbian music maker on the label. However, for the Athens-based producer it's a return after his participation on "Dalmata Daniel eats Lahmacun" compilation. But this project isn't their first collaboration, because Petros released his first album on Body Musick, Filmmaker's own imprint.

Filmmaker probably doesn't really need to be introduced to those who are comfortable with contemporary underground music. In less than five years he has composed and released a huge and relevant oeuvre by himself or on labels such as the UK-based Opal Tapes, Dutch Tartarus, Greek Phormix or the German Veyl, etc. To add Dalmata Daniel to this list is kind of a dream come true for the label, because they have been following his musical journey since the beginning. And no doubt, his side of the vinyl is another testament to his already perfected sound. Veyl is proud to welcome back to the label one of the most essential and multi-dimensional producers today, Filmmaker. To date, the Colombian artist has delivered a plethora of revered releases from his breakout, The Love Market (2019), to his previous album on Veyl, Fictional Portrayals (2022). He consistently traverses genres from post-punk, EBM, synth wave and beyond to create a unique identity still firmly rooted in film culture. Now he returns with perhaps his most robust and powerful offering, Hollywood Cult.

Comprised of 13 tracks, the album sees the producer elevate his sound to new levels, conjuring a world of haunting atmospheres and devious directions that take the listener through a journey of unparalleled proportions. Kicking off the album is the ritual-like 'Secrecy', which builds tension before exploding into a synth-driven race against time and introduces us to the world that lies ahead. 'Holy Wood' injects a heavy dose of body music for an infectious piece that bleeds perfectly in to the slow burning nostalgia of 'Generational Trauma'. Next, 'Western Malice' picks the pace back up with its evil energy that feels fit for the best horror scenes before 'Shocking Therapy' enters the picture with an exhilarating electro feel.

Now in the depths of the journey, 'Vessels Wine' continues the saga with a high intensity work that gives way to the stirring emotions of 'Peacekeeper Ripper' and the raw, blood lust of 'Criminal Rite'. Now entering the final phases, 'Spiritual Harvest' cleanses the palate before 'Elite Dungeons' comes crashing in with a lo-fi feel that puts you deep underground. 'Two Sets of Rules' charges back with twisted lines before 'No Fetish Without Evil' unveils post-punk strings that puts you in a trance before 'Hanging Finale' closes the release ultimately fading out into the abyss. Repeat listens will be necessary and the whole album feels like a soundtrack to a dark new world that is perfectly fitting for any Hollywood Cult.
