Controversial Slovenian Post-Industrial band formed 1980 in Trbovlje, at the time Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Laibach is the German name for Slovenia's capital city Ljubljana.
Initially one of the founders of Martial Industrial music, they changed their musical direction to a more Rock-, Pop- and Techno-/Dance-inspired crossover style in later years.
In 2015 Laibach played two shows in North Korea, making them the first 'western' band to perform there.
The band's official members are: Dachauer (Milan Fras), Eber (Dejan Knez.), Keller (Marjan Benčina or Andrej Lupinc.) and Saliger (Tomaž Hostnik) - committed suicide on December 21, 1982. Also known under alias Saliger (original name of the Austrian painter Ivo Saliger).
Dejan Knez experienced a lightning strike in 1987 and with it a kind of cosmic enlightenment, which unfortunately also resulted in a deepening bipolar disorder, which led to personality stratification and occasional episodes of manic depression. His cooperation with the parent group Laibach therefore became rather disturbed and limited after 1987, and since 2006 it was almost completely interrupted, however he remained a respected member of the group on the symbolic level.
