Egyptian Lover 40th Anniversary Tour
« on: March 11, 2024, 05:59:30 AM »
Apparently Egyptian Lover is touring this year.

I first heard about this show near me in Pittsburgh.
Further searching turned up this list which doesn't include the Pittsburgh show.

Anyone got better/additional information?

Sorry but I checked both his Facebook and Instagram accounts and he is not playing Pittsburgh or anywhere in PA. this year so far but as you know schedules change all the time and he could add more shows or change some so that's what I would keep checking, all the other ticketing sites don't know shit like LiveNation. Best I could do tonight.

Wish you luck later perhaps.

Yeah... the first link in my original post is a link to a Pittsburgh venue claiming they have him booked.  In my experience, they (the venue) are pretty reputable/reliable.  I don't know if Egyptian Lover's website is kept up to date reliably.  Maybe the Pittsburgh show is real, but he doesn't consider it part of the tour.  I may drop Egyptian Lover an email and ask.

Los Angeles-based producer Greg Broussard is the man behind pioneering hip-hop/electro fusion artist the Egyptian Lover.

Egyptian Lover records didn't start appearing until several years after the New York and Miami electro scenes were already in full swing, by the mid-'80s Egyptian Lover cuts like "Egypt, Egypt" were standards among club DJs, particularly in the breakdance scene. Early cuts such as "Computer Love" and "Dance" were among Egyptian Lover's most experimental, with the material appearing through the latter half of the '80s increasingly flirting with full-blown rap by adding more vocals and melodic hooks. While more of his material dates from the latter phase, it's his earlier releases that remain his most accomplished, and they're routinely namechecked by a new generation of producers such as Autechre and I-F inspired by electro's first wave. Also a member of Uncle Jamm's Army and the force behind a half dozen labels including Freak Beat and Egyptian Empire. After nearly a decade, Egyptian Lover released the digitally edited compilation "Pyramix", then hit the studio again and produced new tracks in the same funky electro style for the album "Back From the Tomb".

Sent the email.  Got the response "See you in Pittsburgh".

EXCELLENT - The power of email and contacting the artist directly.  Congrats and I hope you have a good time..   Did he tell you the show date or does the venue do that?

The link in my first post is a full show announcement.

Were it not for my past experience from 15 or so years ago where another Pittsburgh promoter prematurely/falsely claimed he was bringing Afrika Bambaataa to town[1], I would have trusted this promoter completely.  Since the 15-years-ago promoter and the Egyptian-Lover-in-Pittsburgh promoter are completely unrelated, I still trust them about 90%.

"Trust, but verify"

[1] There's also the incident where a band thought they were playing Pittsburgh at Venue X, but Venue X didn't think the show was happening/finalized.  I emailed Venue X and they got it squared away; show might not have happened otherwise.
