Dark synthpop band based out of Bristol, active since the mid-90s.

Mesh are a synthpop/ebm group, hailing from Bristol, England, UK consisting of Mark Hockings and Richard Silverthorn. Neil Taylor was in Mesh from their conception in 1991 until 2005. Their music is described by their official website as "somewhere between synthpop and EBM". Personally they prefer the term 'Electro rock'.

Mesh were discovered largely as a result of Future Music releasing their first three demo songs on a compilation. Holding a large amount of distaste for major label business, the trio chose to form their own label titled Tolerance Records, which released their first EP "Fragile" in 1993. Soon after circulation, the band signed to Memento Materia and re-released the EP. Mesh followed "Fragile" with the album "In This Place Forever", which included the popular single "You Didn't Want Me."

1999 saw the release of "The Point At Which It Falls Apart", which the official bio cites as "certainly the best work that the band had produced to date. It is a rich and emotional album, and shows the threesome taking their music to a new level."

In 2000, Mesh signed distribution agreements with Metropolis Records in order to pursue US appeal, an arrangement which ultimately fizzled out. In 2002 the band switched labels yet again to release "Who Watches Over Me?" on Columbia (a Sony subsidiary).

In 2006 Mesh signed to the German label Königskinder after leaving Columbia. To date neither "Who Watches Over Me?" or "We Collide" have been released on an American label.

In April 2006, the album "We Collide" was released in Europe to generally positive reviews and good chart positions in Germany. In 2007 the band released the DVD "The World's a Big Place", with live performances and interviews from their "We Collide" Tour.

November 3 2009 saw the release of their tenth album "A Perfect Solution" which featured a more synth gritty rock sound rather than previous ones, it spawned 2 singles, first single "Only Better" (which a promotional video was made for) followed by second single "How Long".

Two years later, the band released "An Alternative Solution" which contains all tracks remixes of their latest album by bands like Zeromancer, Assemblage 23 among others.

September 29 2012 the band announces their new album 'Automation Baby' that will be expected in february 2013. Fans can follow the production process with little 'Making of' clips on the bands.

All About You
by blackcarburning

Blackcarburning and Mark Hockings (Mesh) are back with another EP full of exclusive tracks. None of these versions will be on the album. Happiness and In This Moment are exclusive to this EP.

It appears that with (mesh) being on hiatus for the last 4 years Mark Hockings is charged with tremendous creative energy. His work with Blackcarburning is complex, refined, multilayered, and not shy to address the pressing questions we face today.

The Single cut of "All About You" grabs you right out of the gate. The catchy mix was engineered and produced by John Fryer (DM/NIN). Lush, glamorous, with a tint of melancholy and a lot of fairy dust. "Happiness" is another beautiful collaboration with Neil Francis. "In This Moment" is a slow-burn ear-worm that just keeps building and building until Mark brings it home with a flourish. The EP wraps with an "All About You" remix by Olaf Wollschläger who is extremely well regarded for his exceptional work with (Mesh) and a ton of other bands.

Mark is not resting on his laurels. He is curious, willing to take risks, and ready to explore the darker side of pop music. Watching him spread his wings is a pleasure.

Divide Us
by blackcarburning

When Mark Hockings (Mesh) started Blackcarburning he was looking forward to change things up a bit. One thing was clear right from the start. He wanted to bring in his tribe of friends and hand over the microphone every so often so he could focus on writing catchy pop tunes. "Divide Us" is a fantastic collaboration with Mari Kattman (Helix with Tom Shear) a formidable artist in her own right. Together they created an intimate, exciting and uplifting pop gem. John Fryer's impeccable production gives "Divide Us" the shimmering glamor that makes you want to hit the repeat button time and time again.

But in case you missed Mark's silky vocal delivery on the title track rejoice because he makes up for it with "Lies and Romance" as well as "Hive". "Lies and Romance" is a beautifully disjointed and introverted song that should feel familiar to anyone who ever had their heart broken in a million pieces. "Hive" oscillates between being up close and personal and a chorus that opens up the track like a beam of light punching through a dark sky. The EP closes out with the playful "The Grace of Heavy Lifting".

All versions are exclusive to this EP and only "Divide Us" will be on his upcoming album "Watching Sleepers (January 27th, 2023)

Watching Sleepers
by blackcarburning

The wait is finally over!

Mark Hockings, the lead singer of Mesh, spent the pandemic in isolation pondering his musical future, and he hatched a bold plan. He would use his involuntary exile to create something new, and thus Blackcarburning was born. Fun fact: when Hockings started his career, he never planned to become a singer. He almost accidentally ended up doing vocals with Mesh, but what he originally wanted was to play keyboards and program tunes. And with "Watching Sleepers," he could do just that.

Hockings takes on multiple roles, including writing, singing, and programming, and describes the tracks as "electronic music written around songs, emotion, and energy." He adds, "The tracks were written to see what I could achieve by working primarily independently. It's been a vehicle for exploring new songwriting and programming ideas, experimenting with sound design, and developing exciting new directions."

Once you have been part of an iconic band for so long, it is not easy to slip into a new role. But Hockings has been collecting material for quite some time, and he comes out of the gate with guns blazing. His work with Blackcarburning is complex, refined, multilayered, and unafraid to address the pressing questions we face today. "Watching Sleepers" is a beautiful piece of art with an incredible level of depth and sophistication. The album is pop on the surface, but it goes deeper. Hockings is a superb songwriter who has seen a thing or two, and this new vehicle gives him the space to grow as an artist and express himself differently. He is curious, willing to take risks, and ready to explore the darker side of pop music. Watching him spread his wings is a pleasure.

"Watching Sleepers" will delight Mesh fans who have been waiting for new material for several years, and they will also get to know a different side of Mark Hockings.
