Exploding from out of nowhere, like an aneurysm in a closed mind, comes genCAB, combining genres and rewiring the sound of EBM for a new generation. Dissatisfied by the direction that modern dark electronic music was going, David Dutton kept "generation CABLE" in the shadows since its inception in 2003. Rather than tapping into the trends of sci-fi fables and faux wartime glory stories, genCAB writes
intelligent and thought provoking personal lyrics about whats relevant to people as a whole. The product of an 80s generation graciously raised on television, genCAB supplies more depth than what the dance floor has to offer. Now on the surface, the project that almost never saw the light at the end of the tunnel is causing many peers to rethink their own art and is guaranteed to open new minds to the Industrial scene.

…but our opinions are certainly not our accomplishments

More a personal exploration than anything else, genCAB draws influence from not only some select EBM, but also IDM, trip hop, and some rhythmic noise. Lyrics tend to mirror frustration mostly, even delving into the subject of writing his own material such as on Expired Inside, although the material also has a few good dance songs like High Tech Low Life (in earlier version having the name Me & Malaise) and Self Images, for instance.

Remixes have been produced for Unter Null, Aesthetic Perfection, Autovon, Cyanotic, and Cesium_137. The first full length, "II transMuter", released in 08/26/2008, is coproduced by Isaac Glendening of Cesium 137.

Bringing the new breath of air into the dusty air of today's scene, genCAB makes room for himself and promises to bring raw and aggressive, but at the same time, an emotional sound back to electro!

Cake (single)
by genCAB

First single from the upcoming EP "EVERYTHING YOU SEE IS MINE"
lyrics
suddenly not so clean
an option that we could eat
with caution we starve and receive
adopting a slice of the meat

sweet hearts clean our
teeth not, we rot

no portions forced upon my friends
absorb the circus for some bread
forgive the existential dread
bored of it I beg
pretend we’re drawing you in red
to seek redundancy instead
I kill for sport when hunger spreads
we’re coming for your head

the hunter removes his sleeve
adopting a common need
to bandage the oxen’s plea
obnoxiously pure it bleeds

underneath our
greasy fingers
sugar seems sharp
baked in replacing the charm

sweet hearts clean our
teeth not, we rot

genCAB ( THOUGHTS BEYOND WORDS ) interview by Michael Nagy

Perish The Thought (version)
by genCAB

"Perish The Thought" was written for the first time in 2005 and the demo appeared on the Glitch Mode Recording compilation "h0rd3z ov thee el33t ". It eventually was recorded again with friend Isaac Glendening and included on our first LP "II transMuter".

While preparing for my tour with Aesthetic Perfection and Josie Pace I had considered performing some song from that era. However most of those recordings didn't stand as well with the newer material. I took it upon myself to recompose it if I would have written it recently so that I would have the proper backing tracks.

The live set evolved over the course of a few weeks and unfortunately we never played it. But I didn't want all the work to go to waste. When I got back home I decided to sit down properly with it, and sing everything again now that I have more confidence than I did 15 years ago.

Since this track was most early listeners introduction to my music, I've decided to make it free on this platform. Please download and enjoy it anywhere! <3

- David
lyrics
don't wait up for me, I can't think straight
this time please don't freeze
just run from focus til I can't see

why am I the one resenting everyone I love
don't wanna fake another smile
don't ever want to see you move on

why is it everything is all the same
even through all the fame
I stand beside myself inside of a joke
even when I admit to take the blame
and tarnish my own name
the guilt inside me causes myself to choke

all these dreams in me
achieved but still I don't feel complete
all alone somehow
this time there's nothing stopping me now
I'll reach my arms outside the window
catching any breath I can
(I'll need the strength to lie about my
perfect promised land)
these words embodying them all as
herds of dolls before the fall
(caked up in makeup tracing
circles in the sky until I call)

coming to my senses, losing all I never had
I'm burning each and every photograph
to keep from looking bad
saving faces I'd forgotten
save my own face, no exception
frame them safely, fake a smile
and say goodbye to my reflection

III I II (THIRD EYE GEMINI)
by genCAB

https://gencab.bandcamp.com/album/iii-i-ii-third-eye-gemini

Since reforming genCAB in 2020, David Dutton has hit the ground running. "II transMuter" was released in 2008 and considered ahead of it's time structurely, blending elements from EBM and synthpop into song arrangements suited for aggressive rock .

After a long lay off they returned in 2022 with the full length LP "Thoughts Beyond Words", as well as the genre bending EP "Everything You See Is Mine". That year they also toured with Aesthetic Perfection (with which whom both David and drummer Tim Van Horn played live with for years) across the US.

genCAB signed with Metropolis Records in 2023 and released the LP "Signature Flaws". The album was a meditation on one’s own demise, and introduced elements of shoegaze and post hardcore to the already densely amalgamated songs, and thus becoming something new unto itself.

Now, in 2024, genCAB are releasing "THIRD EYE GEMINI" (III I II), half a modern day update to the best material on their first release, as well as new tracks inspired from re-recording those past sessions. The update to their sound was already apparent via the rework they had released for "Perish The Thought", and now everything else is also turned up to 11. In full control of the production, this album remains faithful to the feel of the original, although completely restructured from the ground up, and sung with more confidence and conviction from Dutton. The album remains raw and as fresh as it was when this material was first privately shared to the world more than 16 years ago.

There Goes That Dream
by Bara Hari, genCAB

n the summer of 2023, Sam Franco approached me about collaborating on a song. She presented me with a clip of her playing piano and singing what was the first verse and chorus of this song. It was extremely inspiring, and I ended up writing the next verse and back half of the song, almost afraid that I did too much. Fortunately she really liked it and I was ready to record the vocals...

...but then I had an accident and it destroyed the creative momentum that I had been on for awhile. I wasn't able to get myself back into that mode until Spring of this year, but now the track is ready.

And perhaps there's some irony to all of this happening to a song about the struggle that musicians or artists feel about trying to endure in an oversaturated world.

We love this track. And if you identify with that sentiment, we hope that you do too <3

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
lyrics
Force it down
Let it wash over you til you're underground
It's more than a feeling
Buries you til you're defeated
Coming round
The unpredictable nature to which we're bound
Keeps us up in chains, are we all insane?
Is there anything on the other side?
Oh what a wild ride
Come on in the water's fine
You won't need your breath, we get by with less
So we can put these thoughts to rest

Oh what a sacrifice
Burning the candle at both ends
So we can feel alive
For a moment held in time

Adoring crowds
Ignoring all of the suffering we had allowed
We can touch the ceiling
Leaving the stains where we were bleeding
On the ground
A fraudulent promise, particular sound
Are we still alright, contributing to life
Left here to die for entertainment now
But when a child smiles, or when they see how it's designed
Recycling the pain into a new cocaine
Who knew the concept could sustain
Oh what a wild ride
Come on in the water's fine
You won't need your breath, we get by with less
So we can put these thoughts to rest

Oh what a sacrifice
Burning the candle at both ends
So we can feel alive
For a moment held in time
