Active since 1984, KMFDM are pioneers in the crossover between Techno/Dance/EBM electronics and heavy metal guitar samples. Born in Germany but then relocated to the USA, KMFDM released their first demo tape in 1984 and the first album "What Do You Know Deutschland?" in 1986. Heads of the band were Sascha Konietzko and En Esch. In 2000, the band changed to name into MDFMK and tried a contract with a major company. In 2002 they were back as KMFDM without En Esch.

Rumour has it that KMFDM stands for "Kill Mother Fuckin' Depeche Mode", "Keep Madonna From Doing Music" or "Kylie Minogue Fans Don't Masturbate", but in fact it is an acronym for the nonsensical and grammatically incorrect German phrase "Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid" (actually kind of a grammatical play upon words juggling with definite articles). This term can only be loosely translated into English as "No Majority For Pity" but then loses much of its irony. Thus the grammatically correct phrase "Kein Mitleid Für die Mehrheit" ("No Pity For The Majority") has emerged and is now in common use, even officially. The band now just deals with "Kein Mitleid für die Mehrheit"/"No Pity For The Majority" to avoid being asked stupid questions about what "KMFDM" means for the rest of their lives.

Members: Andy Selway, Lucia Cifarelli, Sascha Konietzko
Former Members: Abby Travis, Günter Schulz, Jr. Blackmale, Jules Hodgson, (En Esch) Klaus Schandelmaier, Mark Durante, Morgan Adjei, Raymond Watts, Rudolph Naomi, Steve Stoll, Steve White, Tim Skold, William Rieflin

EXCESSIVE FORCE

Excessive Force was a side project by Sascha Konietzko, from KMFDM and Buzz McCoy from My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult that existed from 1991 to 1993 (with McCoy leaving the band after the first single.)

Members: Chris Shepard, George Booker, (En Esch) Klaus Schandelmaier, Liz Torres, Mark Durante, Sascha Konietzko
Former Members: Marston Daley aka Buzz McCoy

"Originally this was recorded on two reels of Ampex 456 2" Tape on two Studer A800 Mk III Multitrack Tape Machines, synched via SMPTE at Studio X, Seattle in the fall of 1994.

In 2007 the original tapes were "baked" in order to play them one last time before utter tape deterioration set in, the tape machines were fired up yet once again and both tapes were recorded (and thus digitized) into Protools, perfectly synched via SMPTE.

Finally, after unearthing the believed-to-be-lost session files in early 2021, it was mixed yet one more time. We did not manipulate anything at all on a digital level, there was no "Auto-tuning" applied, we didn't move things around, did not replace any of the original sounds, no "corrections" of any kind were made, all we did was mix it "with fresh ears". Fresh as a daisy, for your listening pleasure, here comes a total recall of one of KMFDM's all-time faves. Enjoy !"

HYËNA
by KMFDM

1.ALL 4 1
2.ROCK 'N' ROLL MONSTER
3.BLACK HOLE
4.HYËNA
5.ALL WRONG - BUT ALRIGHT
6.BLINDFACE
7.DÉJÀ VU
8.DELUDED DESPERATE DANGEROUS & DUMB
9.IMMORTALLY YOURS
10.LIQUOR FISH & CIGARETTES
11.IN DUB WE TRUST

KMFDM has forged its own singular path over the course of 38+ years, continuously refining and redefining the parameters of modern music, while also never missing the opportunity to address the social and political zeitgeist in brazen, belligerent, and boisterous fashion. HYËNA marks the 22nd studio album from the Ultra Heavy Beat, and what title could be more appropriate as the band laughs mockingly at the frayed and frantic state of world affairs.

Driven by the vicious and virulent vocal onslaught of founder Sascha “Käpt’n K” Konietzko and Lucia Cifarelli, the aural and angular guitar wizardry of Andee Blacksugar, and the forceful percussive thrust of Andy Selway, HYËNA blasts through the speakers with the force of a napalm airstrike. From the hip-thrusting rock & roll swagger of “BLACK HOLE,” the in-your-face industrial/rock of “LIQUOR FISH & CIGARETTES,” and the funky hip-hop overtones of “ROCK’N’ROLL MONSTER,” to the punky thrash metal fury of “BLINDFACE,” the sardonic blackgrass whimsy of “DELUDED DESPERATE DANGEROUS & DUMB,” and the irresistibly danceable electro of “HYËNA” – KMFDM remains as vital as ever, never afraid to assimilate any musical style, all the while keeping the lyrical talons sharpened and poised to strike against any and all injustice...  more

One of the world's most exciting bands in the 90's. KMFDM doin' it again and again and again...
Apparently U2 "Achtung Baby" was made under the influence at the time.
